Perth: William Street Revival - EPRA - Northbridge Link - Abandoned Perth

EPRA, congratulations, you get Northbridge. No franchises for William Street. Although my predictions about the Death of Northbridge by 2015 are looking a bit shakey, I stand by my 2025 prediction of a Terminator scenario, and my 2035 prediction, that being the year humans realise they have been living in the Matrix for at least the last thousand years. Yes, from now on, I will refer to EPRA as Duke, the King of Perth, A-Number-One. SAY IT! EPRA YOU'RE THE DUKE OF PERTH A-NUMBER ONE!

The future mix of tenants on the "new" William Street is looking pretty special. The renovated spaces will be taken up by a gallery, a burger bar, a tapas bar, a small bar, a coffee bar, a few fashion related retail outlets, a vinyl music specialist, a bakery, and more, to mix in with the existing tenants such as the chinese newsagent, a travel agency, and of course, originators The Butcher Shop. Nicely neighborhoody. The very first post I ever wrote on this blog was entitled "William Street, Perth's Best Street". That was in April last year. At that time, I had no idea how things would evolve, nor how fast.

So, I would like to thank all of my readers, especially the Asians, skateboarders, graffiti artists, and architects. I will be temporarily leaving Perth, and on a good note. The CBD and Northbridge is changing faster than ever. A few final points, a wish list if you will, as this will be the last post for a few months.

1. Legalise street drinking in Northbridge.
2. Northbridge Link needs to house at least 20,000 people, not the proposed 3,000.
3. I WILL GET PHOTOS INSIDE THE ABANDONED PERTH ENTERTAINMENT CENTER, TRUST ME.
4. Thats all.

Adios, catch ya later, thanks again. Until we meet again, fight the good fight. Oh yeah, I took some film shots of  a great abandoned building in West Perth, if I can get them developed/scanned this week, I'll throw them up here. Below, this is Perth as it is now, in March 2010. Take care. Nate.

Woot woot I suggested the W Perth building, live on the hilly street and have been fighting hard with a small group to save that beauty with no luck... So glad you got in, can't wait to see the pics.

i've only just come across your blog recently. i love the way your photography reveals a fresh perspective of the city rather than the usual kings park/south perth money shots. enjoy your vacation.

I have seen that space invader-esque tile arrangment before. What is it supposed to be?

Interested in seeing the inside of the entertainment centre, more interested as to how you are getting in! ;)

Once again, I like the photos.

I used to work at the PEC. Just a big barn, but with lots of little rooms tucked away around the rim of the arena, offices, kitchens, storerooms full of old props and rigging gear...at least when I worked there. The climb up into the fly-weight area was cool, but walking out on to the girders in the roof, especially with a spotlight in one hand.... the fall always looked long enough to hurt but not far enough to kill you.

Kamu - that space invader-esque piece you are talking about is by a world renowned french street artist called space invader.. look him up :)

Vast is quite right here. Don't chop the door down, i've seen the Cameras around when scoping the place. There is quite a blank spot in the back near the shippment containers that could easily be used to get to the roof.

That starway halfway to the roof i do believe has a camera above it, Im not certain if those cameras are still functioning thou.

PEC Looks achievable, if you're forensic and exacting about it.

The Barnett govt is so idiotic. They let so many iconic places in Perth fall by the wayside. If losing Cinema City wasn't bad enough, now the most sacred of all, Perth Entertaiment Centre. The dickheads build a performing arts venue in Northbridge, which from street view, looking at it reminds me of sitting too close to the screen at the movies when they could have transformed PEC into that and kept a valuable piece of Perth's history. Those were the best days for basketball in WA. PEC, never forgotten.

The third photo down DSC00184 of the little alien. It is on a pedestraian overpass on the freeway just in front of parliment house. What is the story behind this little thing I see it everyday I often wonder about it.

Hi Sean - do a search for a French artist named "Invader" - he visited Perth in the 90's.

Hi there. Feel free to comment, but keep this in mind:
This is a happy place, lets keep it that way, together. In this day and age of spam and idiots, I need to check every comment before it gets published. If it's now 2013, odds are I'm on a tropical beach somewhere in South East Asia, or possibly checking out some abandoned Soviet-era architecture in Eastern Europe, and maybe your comment won't appear for some time. But leave one anyway! If you have a personal message for me, I won't publish the comment, so feel free to submit it here. Thanks for checking out 6000TIMES, and have a nice day.
