Perth : Graffiti, Modernist Architecture, Abandoned Buildings

Graffiti, Modernist Architecture, Abandoned Building. Brisbane Street, Perth. This is the first photo in an untitled series of photos taken around the scenic Northbridge area of Perth, Western Australia. Volume one, of at least a guaranteed two parts. Then, well, lets just take it one step at a time. Cola, I thank you on behalf of the city of Perth. Enjoy.

One more thing. If you are interested in improving your skills with the camera, I should point out that I have a secret weapon. Trust me, it's not my old camera. I talk all about it here. Cheers.

I, also on behalf of the city of Perth, would like to thank Teto for his various cultural contributions to our great city. May your loins be forever fruitful.

Another bunch of great photographs. I often get a bit stuck on what to go out and photograph. Then you remind me that there are things we walk past everyday that have some potential to be a great pic if taken the right way.

This really frustrates me! Im not directing this towards the photography, I can see the talent in these images. My frustration is, why is there the need to draw on other people's property without their permission, especially with banal scribbles? It's juvenile, boring and selfish. Draw on your own things, or ask people to share, and respect if they don't want to.

I thought Cola was being a massive cunt bombing that house. What happened to the old bloke that was living there????

You see the talent in the photography, I see the talent in the artwork. Horses for courses, as long as we're all happy who cares about a little paint here and there. There's much bigger issues to be worried about. Relax!

I disagree with the concept of all space being owned by someone and therefore off limits to painting. Our environment is not static and is not unchangeable. Advertisers and developers and councils take public space and manipulate it for their own means and it is taken as acceptable part of the city landscape, but painting is seen as somehow different because it is not within this artificial sphere of general public acceptability and legality, most of which is based on fear and manipulation. Roads and walls and fences and billboards, when you get past the things youre meant to respect and follow, sometimes there isnt a lot else there. Paint is paint and i think its adds to the world in a lot of ways. I agree that there should be respect for the properties of individuals (delis/shop fronts/cars), and youve got to try and offer somethign to the world when you paint, butother than taht, everything else is fair game.

Also, RIP Today Tonight zombie lady from outside the old entertainment centre. You were a homogonised slut, but the painted blood in your mouth made me love you. May you sleep peacfully

The joint in the top picture is not abandoned.

Theres a very old man who lives there, who's a bit senile, but I'd like to punch the dickhead who graffed his house up because the old guy is fairly defenseless in his senility , and unable to clean it up or afford much maintainance.

Seriously, graff walls, graff buildings, don't graff old peoples houses.

Why would you clean it up? It looks great!

Just discovered your blog and LOVE it - am a big fan of exploring some of our fair cities pre-loved buildings :) Creepiest one I ever found was the old aboriginal women's hostel in Bassendean by the river (I think it's gone now) ..... dead scary late at night by torchlight! A few years ago I got to have a play in the old Cinema City before it's demo (I have a pal in the business).... that was weird and sad all at the same time!

Keep up your insight and sharing on your blog :)

Why clean it up? Because theres a perpetually distressed 90+yo man in there who is frightened of it, because its his house and he's old.

I live within walking distance of some of those photos - the house that the senile guy lives in needs cleaning up because he didnt ask for it to be painted...

I agree with the comments re the top pic. I lived a few houses to the right of that pic and the old fella kept to himself but always waved if he saw you. I can only imagine how frightened he might of been as this graff was going on. Not cool on private property.

Hi there. Feel free to comment, but keep this in mind:
This is a happy place, lets keep it that way, together. In this day and age of spam and idiots, I need to check every comment before it gets published. If it's now 2013, odds are I'm on a tropical beach somewhere in South East Asia, or possibly checking out some abandoned Soviet-era architecture in Eastern Europe, and maybe your comment won't appear for some time. But leave one anyway! If you have a personal message for me, I won't publish the comment, so feel free to submit it here. Thanks for checking out 6000TIMES, and have a nice day.
