Abandoned Stadium - Perry Lakes Stadium, Perth

Abandoned Stadium. Perry Lakes, Perth, Western Australia. Built 1962 for the Commonwealth Games. Abandoned, and very soon to be demolished. The entire stadium with all buildings may have disappeared by the time you read this, replaced with what seems to be a more suburban version of the redeveloped Subiaco. Wassup town planners? Its practically the future already! 20,000 residents with a gondola shuttle service? Its 2010 RIGHT NOW. DO YOU REALISE, IN BACK TO THE FUTURE II, the "FUTURE" WAS 2015! Think about that. Five years to go, and its the future...

Please enjoy a  photo tour of the main grandstand building, track, electronic score board, and surrounds, of abandoned Perry Lakes Stadium.

Nice photos. I can still remember chanting "Marist are wankers!" there in the 70's for interschool.

Thanks TWOP. Familiar with the tune, but not the school you refer to. Although, somehow I'm sure they are indeed wankers.

Funny, it would be an ideal spot for a new footy stadium. Hmm, don't go there sister!

So many memories. I remember doing athletics on the oval just next to it as as a wee anklebiter, always jealous of the older kids that got to train on the proper track.

I remember doing the 24 hour walks around this track for the cancer charities.

great photos ive been working there since bout the time you took the photos.
they wont be knocking the stadium down at least end of 2011 as western force are moving out july 2011 and wildcats have already moved out and the b/ball stadium days are already numbered should be down by the end of the year. i have been taking a pictuarl history during the redeveloping stages very sad to see it go it has personal history to me as well as thousands of others and my uncle competed at the empire games there (boxing).
just to let you guys know if you want to make any "sly" pics on the sunday of after hours.
all i ask leave the place as you found it or landcorp will want us to ramp up security again making it harder for every one grabbing a memory

Hi there. Feel free to comment, but keep this in mind:
This is a happy place, lets keep it that way, together. In this day and age of spam and idiots, I need to check every comment before it gets published. If it's now 2013, odds are I'm on a tropical beach somewhere in South East Asia, or possibly checking out some abandoned Soviet-era architecture in Eastern Europe, and maybe your comment won't appear for some time. But leave one anyway! If you have a personal message for me, I won't publish the comment, so feel free to submit it here. Thanks for checking out 6000TIMES, and have a nice day.
