Bangkok, Thailand : Abandoned Skyscraper Complex, Lieutenant Snake Plissken, Special Forces Unit

Bangkok, Thailand. Three towers, each almost forty stories high. One huge abandoned skyscraper development. Next door, another tower, another thirty or so levels of abandoned skyscraper. Down the street, another skyscraper appears to be, well, abandoned. No security present. Not even a fence. Just walk right in. There were roaming packs of wild dogs on levels 6, 7, and 8. Nothing a big stick couldn't take care of. This is Terminator and Escape from New York rolled into one. Pig, meet shit.

I'm on holiday in Bangkok. Although many tourists hit Bangkok for one reason (clue: Ping Pong balls), there is another reason to visit  the capital city of the "Land of Smiles". Abandoned skyscapers. The most awesome combination of words possible. Abandoned. Skyscapers. Fuck that feels good just typing it. My real camera was left back at the hotel. Fortunately, I am travelling with my girl, and she had a camera. Once we reached level eight, the conversation broke down. "Hey babe, just stand over there and shout out if you see any wild dogs, they seem to be following us...OK, thanks babe"... "Thats it, I'm getting the fuck out of here".

So, I carried on, alone. I was Snake Plisken. S.D. Plissken. American Lieutenant. Special Forces Unit, Black Flight. Two Purple Hearts, Leningrad and Siberia. Youngest man to be decorated by the President. Robbed the federal reserve depository. Life sentence, New York Maximum Security Penitentiary. Call me Snake.

Hey!  You don't want to  walk around down there, Snake!

What you doing in here with a gun, Snake?

Snaaaaaake Plissken. I've heard of you. I heard you were dead.

Wow, Snake Plissken! Alllll right!

You... You are... the Duke of Bang... Bangkok... You're... A-Number-One. I can't hear you!YOU ARE... THE DUKE OF BANGKOK... YOU'RE A-NUMBER-ONE!

You are Snake Plissken, aren't you? I thought you'd be taller.

Man that was a funny movie. It was supposed to be a comedy wasn't it? They had motorbike chases, car chases, surfing, gun fights, knife fights, fist fights. Everything you ever want all compressed into one.

The skyscrapers are cool. Unfortunately from the pictures they don't have much charm compared to your ordinary abandoned building. It seems the moving crews did too much of a good job as there is no clue as to who the previous users are (which is the part I enjoy most).

i assume they were abandoned during construction which is why there is no clue re the previous users?

i could be wrong though

Why didn't the owners sell the scaffolding, spare rebar, and window glass?

Why haven't a few dozen homeless guys cleaned the place out?

Hi, I currently live in Bangkok and would like to explore some of these as well, especially Sathorn Unique. Got any tips? Don't want to run into security or wild dogs.

Here's a tip : watch out for security, and wild dogs.

Good luck, take a large stick, a piece of steak, some rubber balls, dog biscuits, and a large was of cash, and you will be fine.

Oh, watch out for holes, where you can fall a very long way down, in the dark.

Please, be careful, for little Jasmine's sake.

This is not a place to take lightly.

I'm heading to Bangkok in about a week. Could you please give me directions to this place?

Cool story and great photos! Thanks!

Hi Tommi, I went to Bangkok (again) about a month ago, and stayed right near this complex. I couldn't believe it, but it has now been finished off and completed. After more than a decade of sitting empty, in less than 12 months it has been completed. Even the lights were on, and a gold dome was on the roof.

Another one bites the dust, so to speak. In any case, the complex is above the Pratunam markets (easy to find).

Could you tell which area in bkk that is?

Hi there. Feel free to comment, but keep this in mind:
This is a happy place, lets keep it that way, together. In this day and age of spam and idiots, I need to check every comment before it gets published. If it's now 2013, odds are I'm on a tropical beach somewhere in South East Asia, or possibly checking out some abandoned Soviet-era architecture in Eastern Europe, and maybe your comment won't appear for some time. But leave one anyway! If you have a personal message for me, I won't publish the comment, so feel free to submit it here. Thanks for checking out 6000TIMES, and have a nice day.
